Synopsis
At a time when incidents of childhood sexual abuse are so common, here is an inspiring memoir exposing events in childhood that can lead to depression and post-traumatic stress disorder in adulthood.
Told in a raw, unique, and sometimes witty manner, Miss Sharpe delivers this first volume of her memoirs in seven parts, each delivered with their individual writing styles. With candid honesty, she discusses childhood incest, relationships, drugs and alcohol, promiscuity, and her experiences of suffering with depression and anxiety for most of her life.
‘I Remember’ is a particularly evocative part, pertaining to Miss Sharpe’s earliest memories, while ‘Rites of Passage’ is the part we can all relate to, whether we’ve experienced similar issues or not. Much of the story is a simple but beautiful narrative of growing up in the north east of England and transitioning, fresh into her teens, to Yorkshire. She also shares her experiences of healing through accessing specialised therapy in her late thirties.
Ultimately, I De-Serve My Name is a motivational story of survival and hope, which proves that it is possible to achieve a dream out of adversity.
