The Welcome Centre
A local charity on Lord Street in the town centre that provides emergency food, toiletry and cleaning parcels, nappies, and pet food, as well as ‘home starter packs’ which can include essential items such as kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, pots & pans, towels and bedding.
You need a referral to access this support.
How to get a Referral:
- If you already receive support from a service or professional, you can ask them to make a referral for you.
- If not, you can telephone Kirklees Local Welfare Provision Team (LWP) on 01484 414 782 Monday to Friday, 10am-3pm or email lwp@kirklees.gov.uk
- You can also pop into the Methodist Mission, next door to The Welcome Centre, and ask them for a referral.

The Welcome Centre gratefully accepts donations through many different means.
Huddersfield Mission
Works in tandem with local welfare providers, offering advice, general housing/benefit support, emergency aid, and a community café space. They also take direct clothing donations for people experiencing homelessness.

FoodCycle Huddersfield Aspley
Hosts weekly community dining offering a free, warm three-course vegetarian meal.
No booking or referral is needed; it is completely open to everyone.

Birkby & Fartown Library Community Food Pantry
Affordable food support for everyone.
Only £5 for a bag of tinned food, pantry staples, bakery items, and fresh fruit & vegetables.
No registration required. Everyone is welcome.

Shared Goods
A local charity supporting people seeking asylum and refugees. They have a community hub in the town centre, with regular welcoming drop-in sessions. Their services include welfare support and a clothing & household items bank.

Food Share at The Branch
Reduce your food bill and save food from going to landfill. (Not a food bank)
Cost: £4 fee to ensure the Food Share project continues. You will receive much more than £4 worth of food.

Huddersfield Community Fridge
This is a local food bank available to everyone for free, no questions asked.

Huddersfield Community First Food Hub
A highly accessible community food and items support hub. They allow direct self-referrals or professional referrals to supply households with essential foods and packages without heavy red tape.

The Bread & Butter Thing (TBBT) Mobile Pantries
This surplus food scheme operates out of several community hubs on designated days for a deeply discounted price (roughly £8.50 for three full bags of fruit, veg, and chilled goods).

Baby, Toddler & School Uniform Support
- Auntie Pam’s (Huddersfield Town Centre)
Run directly by Kirklees Council and a dedicated team of peer-support volunteers, this is the premier drop-in service for pregnant women and new mums in Huddersfield.
What they provide: They have a Swap Shop where moms can pick up or exchange free baby clothing (from pregnancy up to 20 weeks plus), alongside a pre-loved equipment store for bigger essentials like prams, nappies, and toiletries. They also distribute Healthy Start vitamins, offer infant feeding support, and have baby weighing facilities.
How to access: No professional referral is needed. Mums can walk straight into the venue.

What they provide: Urgent essentials for babies and parents experiencing financial hardship across Kirklees. They stock vital everyday consumables such as nappies, wipes, and baby formula, alongside clothing and starter accessories.
How to access: Families can connect directly through the centre or via local parenting groups.

A massive, Kirklees-wide charity ensuring no child goes without correct school attire. Families can get complete sets of free school uniforms, coats, sportswear, and school bags.
